“Again and again” by Rilke

Again and again, however we know the landscape of love
and the little churchyard there, with its sorrowing names,
and the frighteningly silent abyss into which the others
fall: again and again the two of us walk out together
under the ancient trees, lie down again and again
among the flowers, face to face with the sky.

“Again and again” ,indicative of repeat activity, reflects a desire for rising above mortality through love.Others fall into the frighteningly silent abyss and become part of the sorrowing names of the churchyard .Here love is the two of us walking together ,lying down among the flowers face to face with the sky and through the landscape of love we escape the depressing silence of the dead.

A pretty neat poem without complicated imagery. The repetition of the words “again and again” is suggestive of life activity as opposed to the inertness of death and adds a musical quality to the poem.
